Do you remember how you first heard or came across raw goats milk?
We first heard about raw milk in Nyack, NY where we opened the first Urban Wolf. It sounded really great but the process involved with acquiring the milk was too difficult so we didn’t pursue it. When we opened in SD we came across raw goat milk in a local pet store, I inquired about where it came from, contacted the owner of the farm, joined his co-op and we’ve been getting the milk and yogurt delivered to the store ever since.
Is your product pasteurized or unpasteurized?
Our raw goat milk and raw goat milk yogurt is 100% raw and not pasteurized.
Do you get a lot of customers who think the idea of raw goats milk is just...odd?
Not really. Most of our clients are already in the mindset of finding out about the raw products that we make and so it’s usually an easy thing to talk about. That’s the beauty of our particular business model. We are not just another product on a shelf in a pet store. You get genuine one-on-one service in our store and since everyone has a hand in the production of our products we’re all essentially experts about what we sell.
Have you had any experiences with customers with specific ailments where raw goats milk has helped them?
YES!! One of our clients dogs had benign tumors and the size of the tumors have started to shrink and go away since starting the raw goat milk. We’ve also heard other testimonials in our community about this same thing happening.
Do you get any people trying to tell you that feeding another animal's milk is "wrong"? If so, how do you respond to that?
We’ve never had that happen, but if we did we’d list the benefits we know about raw goats milk and leave the decision to the client.
Talk to me about the sourcing of the product. What is important to you in regards to how you source this product?
We get it locally from a dairy farm / ranch about an hour north of our store. The goats are treated safely and humanely and are fed an all organic feed so the product is 100% organic as well. Humanely treated animals makes for a better quality milk (and yogurt) and knowing that everything is organic let’s us know that it’s pesticide free which is one of the most important aspects of what we sell to our clients.
You also make this goats milk into frozen yogurt treats for the dogs. How did that come about?
We are creative foodies ourselves so it came naturally with wanting to create more fun products. Our kitchen is never static with what we make and our small batch process allows us to develop new ideas and new products that are intended to increase the level of whole food nutrition that we can offer our clients pets.
